Your pre-trip checklist

We are so honored you are making the trip to Brazil! Here is everything you need to complete before you fly.

WhatsApp

Download WhatsApp now — we will use it to share wedding updates before you arrive, and once you are in Brazil it is how we will communicate with guests.

  • Install WhatsApp on your phone
  • Join our wedding WhatsApp group to get updates as plans firm up.
  • Use this group to cooridinate with other guests on travel plans!

US Passport

You need a valid US passport to enter Brazil. Make sure it will not expire within 6 months of your travel dates — if it is close, renew early to avoid last-minute stress.

Brazilian Visa

Brazil requires a travel visa for US citizens. The process is simpler than it sounds — apply through the official eVisa portal linked below. We have attached a video walkthrough to help you through the process. The application may ask for a contact in Brazil; use our details below. Good news: the visa is valid for 10 years, so go ahead and knock this out now.

Book your flight

Plan to land at Hercílio Luz International Airport (FLN) in Florianópolis. Check our travel page for route options and the schedule for wedding-week dates.

Book your stay

Compare neighborhoods, distance from the venue, and booking links on our stay page — each area has notes to help you pick the right spot.

Uber account

Set up Uber before you arrive — it is the easiest way to get around the island. We do not recommend renting a car; it is expensive and driving here can be challenging.

Weather & what to pack

Florianópolis in late April is warm and breezy by day, cooler at night, with occasional rain. Pack for sun, layers, and the wedding dress code.

  • Daytime highs around 75–82°F (24–28°C) with plenty of sunshine.
  • Evenings cool to the mid-60s°F (around 18–20°C) — a light layer helps.
  • Brief rain showers are common; they usually pass quickly.
  • UV is still strong — sunscreen and a hat are worth packing.
  • Wedding attire: formal (suit and tie for men; long or midi dresses for women).
  • Light daytime clothes — linen, cotton, shorts, and sundresses.
  • A light sweater, jacket, or wrap for evenings and air-conditioned rides.
  • Comfortable walking shoes plus sandals for the beach.
  • Swimsuit if you plan beach days during the week.
  • A compact rain jacket or travel umbrella.

Pack & prep

A few small things that will make your trip smoother:

  • Bring one power converter and a US power strip (Brazil uses Type N outlets). We can lend converters to guests — message us on WhatsApp if you need one.
  • You do not need to exchange reais! Credit cards work for almost everything in Brazil. Notify your bank of your travel dates before you go.
  • Download Google Translate and save Portuguese for offline use before you leave.
  • Download Uber and Google Translate before your flight.
  • RSVP if you have not yet — we need your headcount!
